Free Download freeware and shareware software utilities

Welcome to MajorGeeks Boot Camp, an introduction to using this website.

Introduction:

MajorGeeks is here to help you get the most out of your computer mainly by offering tools to the beginner or advanced user (hopefully you someday). Try not to be overwhelmed, just take it one step at a time. Your hosts (Jim and Tim) are both self taught, as are many of our visitors. Many of the files found here give you a nice interface and even explain things for you in simple terms. Many do not even make modifications until you apply them (we cover some of those sections below)

We check files ourself for quality before they are posted, so many of the files submitted to us do not get listed. This simply means we check every program to be sure it basically does what it promises and is spyware and virus free. Because of the many configurations of computers and personal tastes out there, we would not eliminate a program simply because we didn't like it. Many times we find bugs or problems and hold off on posting the file until we can email the author and report the problem. That said, we must remind you that MajorGeeks.Com can not be held liable for any damage (physical or emotional) that may occur from any downloads or advice received from the MajorGeeks.Com website. Yeah, that last sentence really stinks, sorry to get all legal like on you. Still with us? Great, here are a few areas of the MajorGeeks website to get you started:

Before You Start:
Please remember that backups are only slightly less important than your heart beat. Always backup before making changes so you can restore your computer if you have any problems. There is typically nothing to fear as far as basic tweaking and maintenance goes, as long as you are backed up. If you look, you will see the backup section is one of our least downloaded sections here, but we must stress the importance of having some sort of backup.

Many programs that modify your computer have built in backup tools, so you could also check for that before making any changes.

Read A Little:
March over to the Support Forum, read or ask questions and learn a little about the lingo. Its a great place to ask questions you might normally be afraid to ask. We have some great people there who are always glad to help. There are literally years of questions archived on the forum. You do not need to register there to read messages, only to post or use advanced features. The overwhelming majority of visitors to the forums never register or post, but still find the answers they need.

Download some free tools:
Rather than have a long list of files here, we have created a Must Have Free Downloads page which lists all of the best freeware programs you need. They are categorized into sections and include tools that we not only recommend, we use them ourselves.

What's this News, Off Base and Way Off Base Stuff?:

News are stories we spot that we think you might find interesting. Of course were not a news website, but it just offers some interesting links outside of MajorGeeks.

Off Base consist of hardware reviews, tech stories from friends or just something we find interesting. While we are a files based website, we like to share some things of interest.

Way Off Base is exactly that. It does not fit anywhere on MajorGeeks. It consists of website links that are funny, strange or just weird. It is a spin off on our idea that when a pc problem frustrates you, you should walk away or take a break and come back at the problem with a fresh mind. Sometimes a simple laugh or distraction can accomplish that and we hope that you enjoy these strange websites links.

Thats All!
Good luck and welcome to unleashing the hidden power of your PC!
